Praseodymium Print

Praseodymium a soft and silver rare earth element that develops a green discolor when it hits the air. The number it has is fifty-nine. Of course it is found in the earth. No one invented this element but Baron Aver von Welsbach found it in 1885.
The idea for my print came along as I put the pencil to the paper. When I first started I knew I wanted to incorporate something about a glass object in the drawing. Then I thought about it and I first started by just drawing the number (59) and symbol (Pr). After I finished I realized I could drawn some type of stain glassed looking background surrounding the symbol and number. The process it took was very long. First, I had to think of three ideas to draw and get the “Okay” from Ms. Hull to start tracing the idea she thought best portrayed the element of Praseodymium.
After tracing it on the paper, the paper then had to be turned faced down to when the print is made it would come out forward. While the tracing paper was on the linoleum I had to trace over all of the drawing and shade in spots that needed to be shaded to the print could come up on the linoleum block. When the print was darkly shown on the block I had to get an art-cutting tool and cut out all the negative space then I changed it a little because the spaces I wanted cut out were very time consuming.
Then the only thing left to do was print and it was fun! I got to pick all the pretty colors and it took forever. I enjoyed it because when I look at it I see finished artwork. After picking the colors I had to paint it then turn it faced down so the print can come out forwards. Then pressed a soon against the back of the block so the paint would come off as dark as possible. This steep had to be repeated several times until it was right.
The thing I liked doing the best was first drawing the symbol and number because it came out perfect better than what I imagined. If I had to do this again I would pick a design that didn’t take so long to carve out of the linoleum block. It was fun be it took forever and a day just to carve.
